Roger...first off, thank you for putting on a great program. I am very excited to be part of the UAS and your Salem Speedway Program.
Something to consider for the future regarding this class, in my opinion anyone who races in a "sanctioned" UAS race or series needs to join and be a member. Otherwise, you are basically droping in random participants with no real vested interest who impeed the racing between those chassing the points (or a shot to compete at Nationals).
We have had some great racing, good job to all...I look forward to Dec 17th.

I agree with Chris. There's a fine line between discouraging people from participating in "open class" racing, and not having those who only compete occasionally (with no intent on joining UAS) affecting race outcomes between UAS competitors. Let's face it, we need more people to participate not discourage them. That being said....joining UAS is really not that expensive ! Spend a few bucks, join UAS, let's grow this class.

agreed.. It would be nice to see some of the other non members join up for this series.. maybe this summer we can get a large group together and travel back to Lasosky to run with the others in the UAS.. just making the main would be a great accomplishment!!
Join up and run two 1/4 points races.. finish well and qualify for the "Muscle Kart Grands" coming this September..
Thank You Roger for making the commitment to become the series administrator.. doing a great job!!

All good valid points here! I think those of us that have joined UAS should try and get some of these people who havent join'd to sign up! Heck the $30 is worth it just to get the muscle kart magazine! Altho with this class growing the way it is, it would be a shame to tell someone they couldnt run open just cause they didnt join UAS! Personally i think until the class gets to the size we would all like it, everyone should be able to run UAS if they fall within the rules, but only those who are members should get points. At least for a year or so until we get the class built up! And at this rate, that wont take long! I know come september we are planning a trip to Lasoski....hope a few more will as well! Biggest race in the country! Thanks Roger for making all this happen. The summer series is going to be great as well!

I hate to say this, but I agree with everything that Ronnie has said. You don't want to exclude anyone when the numbers aren't where they should be. #44

Delicate balance indeed. For now we may have to make the best of things like Ronnie says.......at least until we have big class numbers. I still think that $30 for a magazine and membership is pretty reasonable, one trip for pizza and soft drinks will eat $30 these days, most of us spend more than that just to drive to a race.

Got my winter issue today.. with the 2012 rules.. and looking through them, #7 has to start on the back row for the next two races.. it's right there in the rules.. check 'em out!! It says after winning the 5th race of a series.. you must start in the tail end of the group for 2 races.. Make sure you enforce that Roger.. ;D

Roger, keep your eye on Ken, he's trying to use undue influence.

From a different perspective....why make someone join if they aren't running all the races? Example....next year for the BK5 are you really going to charge someone an additional $30 to enter that class just because you require a memebership for it and that is the only race they will run? That's silly IMHO!! Every place I've been to that has a membership for "points racers" gives you at least a one to two race grace period to join. Should be no different here. If you want to "points race" join....if you don't, you shouldn't be required to join.

Even though I would love to see everyone join I don't see that happening in the near future, unless UAS mandated it. If they mandate it we will find a way around it.
My whole goal with running the Speedway Kart Series at Salem is to grow it back to where it once was. I saw UAS as 1 tool to help achieve this goal. Next year my goal is to obtain Official IKF Sanctioning for the rest of the Kart Classes.
With the help of some friends I am working on a 4 race Summer Series following our Current Winter Rules Structure and include our 2nd UAS 1/4 point Race for those who are heading to the Muscle Kart Grand Nationals.
When I started this I said it would take 3-5 years to make happen, already this year our Kart Counts are up 17% over last year with 2 races left. I am encouraged that together we can bring back the Glory Days with Class and Rule Structures that please the Karters.
