2012-2013 Salem Indoor Cage Kart Rules
ALL DECISIONS MADE BY THE OFFICIALS ARE FINAL.
NO EXCEPTIONS & NO PROTESTS.
Race Length:
All Heats are 10 laps and all Mains are 20 laps. There is a 15 minute time limit on all heats and mains including yellow flag laps. Red flag incidents will stop the clock and restart when race resumes. ALL HEATS and MAINS can be shortened at Race Officials discretion to meet City’s Curfew.
Age Waiver:Any driver who does not meet the Class Age requirements and exhibits the judgment and ability to race in a higher cc Class may apply for an Age Waiver. Age waivers shall be granted by Race Officials with a 3 race probationary period. Waiver shall be in effect until Driver reaches required age for class. Drivers requesting an Age Waiver are required to obtain 3 signatures of approval from Salem Indoor Track Officials. Drivers granted a waiver shall run 2 ribbons attached to upper portion of cage for duration of waiver. Waiver may be revoked at any time by Race Director only and for valid reason.
Pee Wee: Age 5-8 years old.
Sealed Subaru motor must run an unaltered Silver restrictor plate, .500".
Briggs must run an unaltered Red restrictor plate, .500".
Stock size Billet Flywheel OK.
NO CHANGES MAY BE MADE TO ANY PART OF THE MOTOR.
The only motor adjustments are spark plug or valve lash.
Muffler Mandatory.
Fuel is pump or race gas.
5HP Intermediate: Age 8-10
All karts running this class must have a sealed Subaru motor.
Motor must comply with all current Red Bluff rules.
Must run stock ignition timing.
No Key or Keyway Modifications.
Factory spec valve springs only, no shims.
Nothing can be changed/modified after the intake manifold.
Must use a VM26 Kartb body.
Muffler Mandatory.
Any changes made must be authorized by promoter
Open 5HP: 8-12 years old. All Drivers must be Approved by Race Director
Any 5HP motor will be allowed to run this class.
Muffler Mandatory.
Aluminum Flywheels permitted.
125cc Cage Kart: Age 10-16 Must run a stock case and cylinder Must have stock stroke rod and crank.
- 125 cc Max.
- Maximum overbore to 135cc. 135cc cannot be achieved by adjusting stroke.
Aftermarket ignition OK.
No “Lectron” Carburetor’s.
Must run motocross type engine
Silencer with packing is mandatory.
Minimum weight for kart and driver combined is 370lbs.
250cc 2 and 4 cycle: Age 10 and older
Must weigh a minimum of 370lbs
Must run a stock case and cylinder.
Aftermarket ignition OK.

Silencer with packing is mandatory.

Open: Age 15 and older
All 450 4 stroke Karts will run this class.

Fuel:All karts must run race gas or pump gas with no additives other than 2 cycle oil.
Tires:
125, 250, & Open must run a 5, 50, or 55 on the right rear. 6” Maximum Diameter stamped on sidewall.

Safety Rules
All drivers must have Snell 2002 (Snell 2005 is highly recommended), or newer helmet, neck brace, arm restraints, gloves, long sleeves & pants. Shoes must cover ankles.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY OF YOU AND YOUR KART.
All Karts
All karts must start race with cages, wings, hoods, and tails. No nose wings!
1. Brakes must be in good working condition at all times.
2. All karts must be equipped with a restraint system seat belts and shoulder harnesses, in good working order or until the date of the of the belt expiration. Shoulder harnesses must be mounted in a way to restrict forward body motion independently of seat. Lap seat belts should be mounted on frame. Cut or frayed seat belts will not be allowed. This entire rule will be strongly enforced.(Arm restraints are required and must be connected and used as instructed by the manufacturer.)
3. Approved neck braces or After Market Neck restraints are mandatory.
4. Helmets:
a. Snell or DOT approved only (Recommend Snell 2005 or newer.).
b. Must fit driver’s head.
5. Aluminum high back seats are MANDATORY. The top of the seat should be at the middle of the driver’s head.
a. Securely mounted to the frame.
b. No excessive holes.
c. Any suspended seat is to have safety cable attached to seat.
6. All drivers must maintain a working fire extinguisher in their pit area.
7. All karts must have a min. 6” nylon zip tie attached to spark plug wire.
8. Driving apparel: Racing suits highly recommended. No shorts or cutoff pants. Shoes must cover ankles.
9. No sharp or protruding objects on any part of the kart.
10. Roll cage must be securely fastened with a safety chain and grade 5 or better bolt, in at least four spots.
11. Driver’s body must be completely inside roll cage. Roll cage height minimum of 2” clearance above driver’s head. Fuel line location cannot be closer than 2” to any of the exhaust system at any time and shall not be above the exhaust. If closer than 2”, fuel line must be insulated. Fuel line must have ample slack for cage movement. Must be petroleum grade fuel line.
12. Suicide doors: No suicide bars. Side bar must open from the rear. Left side protection is recommended.
13. No axle protrusion beyond wheel rim.
14. Smoking in pit area is not recommended. Use common sense.
15. Pitmen are not allowed on racetrack or infield while race is in progress. Violators will result in their kart being docked positions, one lap or disqualification.
16. During red and yellow flag, WORK ON KARTS ON RACE TRACK IS PROHIBITED. Karts may exit the track during the yellow in order to make repairs in the HOT GRID area only, No on-track worksite.
17. SPEEDING IN THE PIT AREA will result in a loss of points or other sanctions as seen fit by Race Officials.
18. Any Race Official is permitted to remove karts from racetrack due to unsafe conditions to driver and/or other karts.
19. Track Officials’ decision is final.
20. Chain guards are mandatory, appropriately designed to prevent injury to drivers arm. If in doubt, see safety tech.
21. All lead weights must be bolted on, painted white, with the Kart number written on it.
Starts
During Starts all karts must maintain double file formation to the point that the Green Flag is Thrown. If the front row has 2 bad starts they will be moved back 1 row and the second row will move up. We will continue this process until we have a good start.
Restarts
All restarts will be single file and there will be no passing before the re-start cone, located at the Finish line. Karts must remain nose to tail. If a Kart does not remain nose to tail or passes before the re-start cone they will be docked 2 positions for every Kart they passed at the next yellow or at the end of the race. Watch for the flagger’s signal to get back in order.
Cautions
Drivers will be sent to the pits after their second yellow in a heat and their second yellow in a main. (ALL HEATS AND MAINS HAVE A 15 MINUTE TIME LIMIT.) Time will start with initial green flag of the heat or main. All drivers that are the cause of, spin to avoid, or are involved in (flagger’s discretion) will be charged with a yellow and sent to the back. Also any Kart that stops on the track after their initial start will be charged with a yellow and sent to the back unless it is a safety issue and is seen by an official. There are no, no fault restarts. Stay in line and do not pass once you take the yellow. Any driver that gets out of their Kart will not be permitted back into the race unless it is a safety issue. No racing to the yellow flag unless the white flag is out.
Red Flag
Stop Immediately. If at all possible do not pass the Karts involved. Nobody comes onto the track without official’s okay. If a member of your pit crew does come onto the track you will be sent to the back the first time and disqualified the next. No working on a Kart under a red flag. Any Karts that do have something done to them will be put to the back and this may only be done with Race Directors approval. If a red flag is thrown after the white but before the checkered we will reline, throw the white & green together and then the checkered. If the red is flown after the checkered we will finish the race under caution.
Black Flag:
If a driver receives a black flag they must immediately exit the track. If they do not they will lose all points for the entire night. A Track Official will come to your pit and explain the reason for the Black Flag. DO NOT approach the Flagman or Hot Grid Steward for an explanation.
Yellow/Blue Flag
This flag may be used for slow Karts, if you see this flag hold your line because you are about to be lapped.
Staging
All drivers must be in the staging lane, with all safety gear on, and ready to be pushed off when there class is up. We will not wait for any driver for any reason!!
If you miss the start you can come onto the track under caution only with official’s approval. It is your responsibility to know when your class is up!
Work Area
The work area will be located in the Hot Grid Area. Racing will begin as soon as karts are lined up. Karts may rejoin the race with Race Officials permission before the one to go has been given or at the next yellow. There will be NO time allotted for karts in the work area!
Fighting will not be tolerated. Any driver and/or pit crew member involved in a fight will be asked to leave the facility. You will have to get permission from the Race Director before returning. Drivers are responsible for their pit crew member’s actions. SPORTSMANSHIP IS A TECH ITEM.
Bad mouthing of officials, drivers, and/or pit crew members will not be tolerated. You will receive one warning and if the behavior continues you will be asked to leave and have to get permission from the Race Director before returning. Drivers are responsible for their pit crew members.
Please know what class you are in when you register.
All Karts must have very visible numbers on both sides of the Kart that are of contrasting color. If Lap Counters cannot read your number they are not required to count your laps.
All classes with less than 5 Karts may be combined with the faster Karts starting in the front.
Heat #1 will be heads up by pill draw.
Heat #2 will be a complete invert.
The main event will be lined up based on point totals from the heat races. In the event of a point tie low pill draw will get the position.
Top 3 Karts in each main will need to report immediately to the tech area. If you pass this area you will be automatically disqualified!!
Payouts:
Trophies will be awarded immediately after the last main event in the track infield and must be picked up at that time! All PeeWee, 5hp Intermediate, and 5hp Open entries will receive trophies.
The top 33% Finishers of the 125, 250, and Open Classes will receive payouts based on 75% of the entry fees for each class
No radio communication with your driver.
All drivers that take the green flag will receive points for that race unless black flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Points are awarded to the driver not to the Kart. NO SUBSTITUTE DRIVERS.
